Kylie and Kendal Jenner for a week

Anyone that has ever talked to me knows the depths of my obsession with the Kardashian/Jenner clan’s wardrobe. It is obvious that this is one of the major reasons as to why they are actually famous and it makes sense because their style kicks ass every time. I decided to take on the experiment of dressing like Kendall and Kylie for a week to see what it’s like to look and feel like a style icon. Not all of my outfits worked out to look exactly like the OG ones BUT I tried to make it as similar as possible.  I also decided to do some of the things they usually would such as do photoshoots wearing Calvins a-la Kendall and wear bold outfits (that in reality I’d be too intimidated to wear) just like Kylie.

Monday:

I started off by recreating one of the outfits that has inspired me the most by Kylie Jenner. I think that her style is so versatile and ever-changing and I love that about her. I came across this picture of her and I figured I already had the boots so I was half-way there, all I needed to do was find a dress or a long plaid shirt that would mimic the look. Obviously this doesn’t look exactly like hers but it’s similar enough and I think it did the trick. When I wore it that day, I went out with my friends to a restaurant for food and drinks and 3 people recognized the outfit. It was interesting to see that people were actually catching on considering I hadn’t told anyone about my Kendall and Kylie for a week experiment. Even though my friends were appreciative of my efforts in looking like King-Ky, people dining at the restaurant gave me the “who does she think she is” look. Bare in mind, I DO live in Burlington, Ontario, where people are not so into wearing extravagant outfits to go eat and drink at a restaurant. Regardless of the fact that I was being constantly stared down, I rather enjoyed this outfit because I felt glamorous and comfortable. So here it is:

I ended up ordering the dress online from Aritzia.com, simply because that store never fails and I already had the boots from last summer; they’re from PublicDesire.com

Tuesday:

Day two of my experiment of becoming a Kardashian-Jenner girl. On Tuesday I decided to take on the role of supermodel Kendall Jenner. Despite my inability to ever become a catwalk model because I am the mere height of 5’2, I decided to contact my friend Adrienna Elcome,  who’s a photographer, to give me a helping hand in launching my fake modelling career for a day. I had come across a few photos on Kenny’s Instagram but then decided it was best to just simply Google which ones are the most popular ones. Of course, the Calvin Klein ones were some of the top most-liked photos on her page and since I already had the exact same Calvins I chose that as the theme. I must admit, modelling is no picnic. It was 13 degrees outside and I ventured out to a football field (considering my house is not a million-dollar Calabassas mansion and my backyard is not big enough for a shoot) and began posing. I will tell you now…this is one of the most uncomfortable and difficult tasks I’ve ever endured. It takes raw talent to be able to pose in cold weather half naked and still look like, well, a model. I have a new-found respect for all the models in the industry; wherever and whoever you are, KUDOS. After about 70 photos and countless goosebumps, I chose about 5 that were decent and worked with those. I posted a few on social media and got a lot of people commenting on how it looked very close to Kendall’s picture (of course now that I see them side by side it is painful to see how much more beautiful she is… l o l). Anyway, here they are:

Wednesday:

This day was supposed to be dedicated to Kylie but as it turns out, I received my Yeezus tour t-shirt so I decided that I had to go with the look I had prepared in my head. Yeezy has new clothes coming out constantly and once one catches on, he releases something new, making it hard for people (peasants) like me to catch up. The look I was thinking of recreating is the very popular “no pants” Kendall look, where she wore the Yeezus sweatshirt and heels and still managed to look flawless. Of course, I didn’t know about this sweatshirt ’till after I had placed my order for the t-shirt, so I wore the t-shirt instead. Despite how into it I was with the whole dressing like a Jenner for a week, I opted to wear shorts because…well I just couldn’t go bare. I sent a snapchat pic (the picture at bottom) to my friends and I received all kinds of feedback; from positive to “put some pants on!!” (to which I kindly took the time to respond and point out that I was in FACT wearing denim shorts under). I decided to truly embrace the Jenner role and take it past the wardrobe aspect with this one because after all, the experiment was to not only dress like them but LIVE like them. I wore this outfit and ventured to Starbucks and then to the grocery store to buy some cereal as one does in heels and a unisex oversized Kenye Tee. Needless to say, this look is strictly to be worn in Los Angeles because people in small cities are not appreciative of them (the guy in the cereal isle looked seriously confused). Also, being famous kind of helps since it’s sort of like a right of passage to do average things like grocery shopping in heels.

The Yeezus tour t-shirt I ordered off of eBay, heels are from Zara ($50 CAD) and glasses from Boat House ($20 CAD)

Thursday:

Considering I dedicated Tuesday and Wednesday to Kendall, I thought it was only logical to devote Thursday to Kylie. In terms of style, Kylie is more aggressive with statement looks and whatnot (wigs, long nails, bold lip colours). Of course, due to my, uh…how do I say it? limited means? I couldn’t get my hands on a wig (they are around $300 and more) so I decided to do something more affordable with items I already own. Kylie’s style is often cool and effortless, and this involves a lot of cool running shoes. I had a picture of Kylie saved in my desktop because I fell in love with her outfit the first time I saw it and I wanted to recreate it. I was planning on going to my friend’s boyfriend’s hockey game and thought this outfit was low-key warm and low-key cool for the summer (no, this is not a Demi Lovato reference), so I wore it. I felt extremely bada$$ in it and I loved every minute of it. Unlike my Kendall-no-pants outfit, this one didn’t receive as much backlash but I’ll admit my friend’s started to think I was going through an identity crisis since I had been switching up my style a lot in a matter of days (they were still clueless that I was doing this experiment). And, of course, I added the iconic Cartier love bracelets (mine are most-definitely not the real thing), which are a staple in Kylie’s accessories.

Friday:

Second day in a row for Kylie. I was planning on going to the bar with my friends and didn’t want anything too over the top. I Googled photos of Kylie in a chic but simple outfit that would be fitting to go to the bar in Burlington and not weird people out with anything too extravagant. I found one I really liked and since I had pieces that were either identical or similar to the outfit she was wearing I opted to do that one. This outfit was more under the radar than the ones I had worn previously so I got compliments but no weird looks, which was nice for a change. I had come to realize that some outfits are only meant to be worn by celebrities since they are the only ones that can get away with it and truly pull them off. The outfit overall was a success because it ended up being a cold and windy night and while I was wearing over-the-knee boots, jeans and a leather jacket, my friends froze in a skirt and pumps. I really wish my jacket had been the same shade of brown as Kylie’s but I am in no position to spend $700 on a new leather jacket so I wore my old jacket from Abercrombie and Fitch from back when I was in high school (God bless being small and still fitting into my old clothes at 21 yrs of age).

My top is from Aritzia ($35 CAD), Jeans from Aritzia ($150 CAD), boots and jacket are stated above.

Saturday:

For my last day (I decided to leave out Sunday to dedicate the same amount of days to both Kendall and Kylie) I decided to embrace Kendall’s casual look and athletic side. I am in no way, shape or form a sporty person but I do enjoy the casual hike and I know Kenny does too, so my friend Alyssa and I ventured out to Mount Nemo in Burlington. Kendall is always caught out and about wearing a black sports bra and high-waisted yoga pants so I figured I would ask my friend to take a paparazzi-like picture of me hiking in my Kendall-inspired outfit. I definitely don’t look half as cool as she does when the paparazzi take pictures of her but I will tell you now, this took us about 20 minutes to get a shot that actually somewhat resembled a candid and effortless paparazzi picture. At the same time, I decided to pose looking out into the distance just like Kendall’s hiking photo bellow and added a few (dozen) filters to make it look all dark and mysterious like her Instagram page does.

My sports bra is from Victorias Secret (Knockout sports-bra $60 CAD) as well as my pants (Knockout sport pants $70 CAD)
